Club was a lot of fun today. Arlynne came up with the plan to use dye inks to watercolor Mulberry paper. (Thanks Arlynne!) Basically we just played and tried several different variations of the idea. Sometimes we would wet the mulberry first with a spritz of water, sometimes we would spritz before and after the color had been applied. We picked up dye ink from the pads (or lids) with an aqua brush and randomly applied it to white or light colored Mulberry. The more water you squeezed out of the brush as you applied the color, the better the colors bled and spread across the paper. On some of the pieces we first embossed using white ink and white embossing powder with an open design rubber stamp.

These are so cool looking. I haven’t bought any of the alcohol inks because I have no clue what to do with them.

    Thanks

Hi momto2, these were actually done with regular old dye inks. My favorite dyes for this type of project are the Nick Bantock inks because their color is so rich. And, it is fade resistant.

I have a friend who is the queen of alcohol inks (she was wowing the crowds even before Tim rose to fame). I will see if I can sntach some of her samples to post here with a few suggestions.

I love both dye and alcohol inks, and am forever calling my sister to ask her advice on what I can and can’t do with them. If you knew me well, you’d understand how I can do some serious damage in the blink of an eye. Usually it turns out well, but so far, I’ve inked the cat, the dog, and several other creatures that have gotten in my way. I must admit though, the dog does look good in eggplant.

I love your blog and vow to meet you next time I’m in Arizona.

Hmmmm…. I’ve heard of the stamper’s “rule” of inking anything that doesn’t move but you must be really hard core if you go after the pets! I’ll tell Chris to either hide Lil or the reinkers next time you are in town!
