Turkey and a Book

November 23rd, 2006 · 1 Comment

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I hope you are having a great day with lots of family and good food.

We ate early today so I’ve had time to come into my studio and play. I’ve been anxious to get started on a new altered book. While at a yard sale I picked up an old (1947) copy of “The Vixens” by Frank Yerby. The title is what grabbed me. In my mind I could see all sorts of glamorous and dangerous ladies dancing across the pages.

I also had some beautiful fabric that I found at the yard sale so I decided to use it to recover the book. I left the spine uncovered but lightly added color from a gold metallic marker so the title could still be seen.

Just inside the cover I added my first Vixen. I brushed glaze onto the page and stamped over it with the word stamp in brown. Then I stamped the lady’s face onto a golden card stock and cut it out. After gluing the face to the page I tore off a piece of decorative paper and glued it in place. Then I glued the feathers on and finished them off with some gold glitter glue for her cap. A little more glaze for make-up and a few glue on jewels and she is done!

Thanks mom to 2. I’m kind of shocked because what you see in the book is really close to what I saw in my mind. How often does that happen! LOL It is going to be hard to work on other things while this book keeps calling to me.

I love the feathers! I have some big bags of feathers I’ve been collecting and saving for something special. Now you have given me an idea. Hmmmm
