I had the best play day with my friend Arlynne! She was showing me what she had learned in a class on painted background techniques. For the most part the “technique” is slapping paint onto paper in colors and patterns you like. The secret though is what you mix with the paint… We were working with acrylic paints and we mixed them 50/50 with gel medium. This helps the paint move better, keeps it from drying too fast and gives the finished paper a flexible yet sturdy finish. On some of the pieces we also used gesso, sometimes mixed with the paint and sometimes just layered under or over the paint. It was tons of fun. I can’t wait to get these pages added into some of my altered books.

I'm Chia Wald and this is my blog. Here is where I share my thoughts and my art. Sometimes it is good, sometimes it isn't. That's life... and that's me.
Stumble it!

Those are lovely - I particularly like the blue and purple piece. And I’m guessing the texture is fabulous, too! I know I have some gel medium buried in a drawer somewhere; I may actually have to unearth it and play. Thanks for the inspiration
