Grasshopper

June 7th, 2007 · No Comments

Do you remember Aesop’s fable about the Grasshopper and the Ant? The industrious little ant worked all day, every day preparing for the days ahead of him. He was always prepared and never stressed. The grasshopper was a procrastinator. His motto was ‘Why work today when I can wait until I need it tomorrow.’

In some ways I am an ant. I am always making plans in advance, planning for every contingency. I use to drive my family nuts having everyone dressed and ready to leave the house long before we needed to reach our destination. Better to be early than late, right?

In other ways I am a grasshopper. Thinking about deadlines and waiting till the last minute to do the work. Usually the grasshopper in me comes to the surface when creativity is called for. I am usually more creative when backed up against a deadline. And usually when I am backed up against a deadline I find myself really, really hoping that I can be creative.

Today I am a grasshopper. Tomorrow is an ATC swap that I really want to participate in. It has a theme of Fairy Tales or Fables. I have some blank cardstock. I am hoping for some creativity… soon! Real soon, there is another deadline approaching in 3 days and I need to have 3 things ready for it.

Ruby! Where for art thou, Ruby?
