I learned something new this week and it still has me scratching my head. We were using alcohol inks to make a Polished Stone background and we included some Pearl Ex on the card. The part that amazed us is that we didn’t need to use anything else as a binder to keep the P.E. in place. Something in the alcohol inks or in the blending solution acts as a binder.
Does anyone know why this works? We were 100% sure that it wasn’t going to work. I really rubbed on the finished card trying to make our prediction right but the dang thing worked. There were a few of us shaking our heads in amazement over it.
I was talking to another friend about this technique and she told me she was never happy with her Polished Stone or DTP results. My suggestion to her was to just keep going. Quite often people just give up too early and the bits of ink end up looking like … well… bits of ink. You need to work it a bit and get the colors to blend a little. Some times when I find I am still not happy I just load up some more ink and pounce all over the card till I get a look I’m happy with.
