I stayed up late last night making two batches of Peanut Brittle, a batch of Oatmeal Scotchies and a batch of Chocolate Chip Cookies so that Recliner Man could take them to work today along with the 12 Christmas Cards that I made for him. He likes to share some holiday cheer with his co-workers and I like to help him out.
He doesn’t call me from work very often but he called today around lunch time. “Hi, how are you today?”, he said. How are you???? He never asks how I am…. he must be up to something… I wonder what he wants? “You know last night when I was counting people?” Ah, now I know… “I forgot two.”
Luckily I had kept some extra cookies and brittle here at home. All I had to do was make the extra cards and then take all of it down to the where he works and leave it in his car. If I was totally into patting myself on the back this is where I’d tell you what a good wife he has and how lucky he is to have me, but I’m much to modest to do something like that. (Hush up, you two.. I know who you are!)
I got the greatest pay-off for my efforts when Recliner Man came home. He told me that when he started to pull the goodies out of the bag one of his friends exclaimed, “I know Recliner Man and that’s Peanut Brittle in the bag!” OK, he didn’t really say “Recliner Man” but it made the story flow better to say it that way.. just follow along with me. Anyway, the excited anticipation of the Peanut Brittle was enough to warm my heart but his next comment made me all warm inside, “My grandma use to make Peanut Brittle for me every Christmas.” Awwwwww… I feel so honored to have helped keep a cherished Christmas memory alive. I’m already looking forward to making a batch next year.
I’m tagging this one as a “Little Joy”. It feels so good to make other people happy.
I'm Chia Wald and this is my blog. Here is where I share my thoughts and my art. Sometimes it is good, sometimes it isn't. That's life... and that's me.
Stumble it!
