Styles

Fefe gave these ATCs to me. Thanks Fefe, I love them!

I have several blogs that I’ve subscribed to and keep track of through Google Reader.  There is one that belongs to a paper artist and has frequent updates. In fact, she posts at least one new card every day, sometimes more. It didn’t take long for me to notice her style. Not much longer and I’d swear I could pick her work out no matter where I found it. Not much longer and her style started to feel stale.

Every card she makes is done in the same two colors. Every card uses the same technique to create the background. And, every card has a vintage image glued on it.  It’s just my opinion but I think she is in a rut.

So, this has got me thinking. Do I have a style? What is it? Do I stay so true to my style that I too am in a rut? I honestly don’t know if I have a signature style. I’m more sure of the things I don’t do than the things I do. I know I don’t do frilly feminine things with lots of lace and flowers. So, what is it that I do? Is it important to have your own style? Does bouncing around doing whatever strikes my fancy mean that I’m floundering and in need of a style?

What are your thoughts? Are styles an important part of the process. How true should someone be to their style? Do you have a style?

Boy Chia, that’s alot of questions! I will give it some thought and get back to you. I know I don’t have a style unless “flying by the seat of your pants” is one!

Chia, I don’t think you have a specific style and no, you are not in a rut. I think you bounce around, but that’s a good thing. I don’t see it as floundering, I see it as not boring. Not really sure I could pick out your work if it were mixed with a bunch of other artist’s.
    Smiles,
    Chris
