My Day

June 29th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Nothing really exciting is going on so I thought I’d just tell you about my day. Wait, don’t all run away at once. It wasn’t completely boring and I have pictures to share. OK, that’s better, at least a few of you are sticking around. I just hate it when I ramble on here and then realize I’m all alone and talking to myself. It makes me feel just a little but crazy, like when I looked outside and saw Abbey on the patio while she was in the house with me. I spent hours walking around the house and looking out the windows trying to decide if I was seeing things or if another cat had been in the yard. But that’s a different story and I don’t need to go around pointing out how crazy I am. I have a reputation to protect, you know.

My day was getting off to a slow start, which can be a good thing on a Saturday, when The Boy called. He wanted to go to Sushi with me for lunch. I’ve been wanting to go to our favorite Sushi place for a while but it seemed like our schedule never fit their hours. They have new hours and new pricing so we had a great time.

I didn’t take any pictures of the Catapillar roll this time. The last time I did that the Sushi Chef looked at me like I was crazy. There is that word again. But I do have this fun photo from the winter CHA.

Aren’t those cute?

The folks at Tulip/Japan had these great little felting kits. They were letting people make their own as a make and take.

But we were talking about my day, weren’t we? After lunch we spent some time in the pool and then came inside to play Wii. I showed him the cool new Mii characters I made. I found directions for Darth Vader, Albert Einstein, Garfield and Scooby Doo at www.miicharacters.com/. If you have a Wii check them out. It’s just so funny to see these guys running sround in your games.

Later on I spent some time going through the old catalogs at WishbookWeb.com. It was so much fun looking through the catalog pages from my youth. I can still remember how exciting it was when the Wishbook showed up in the mail and let you know the Christmas season was here. It was cool to see my old Chemistry set again and shocking to see what toys cost back in those days!

Go take a look and see if you can find some of your childhood memories.

A day earlier my friends and I were playing with image transfers. We had tried doing some a couple weeks ago and the results were.. well, we didn’t really get any results. The ink just wouldn’t move. This brought out the stubborn in me and I insisted they roll up their sleeves and try it with me again. This time I did print outs on my Cannon printer as well as on Recliner Man’s HP printer. My images still wouldn’t move but the HP ones made great transfers. I didn’t realize that one brand of ink would be so different from another one. We did the type of transfers where you print onto a transparency and lay it onto a layer of gel medium, rubbing it down and then pulling away the transparency while it is still wet. We also did the ones with the image on paper and after letting it dry wetting the paper and rubbing it away. The wet paper method is more work but I think I like the results better. The most important lesson in this was to keep trying until you hit on something that works. We played with frying times, how think to apply the gel medium and the different inks. We also did transfers with newspaper pictures and they worked out great. I don’t know how often I’ll use this technique but I feel much better now that I didn’t let it get the better of me.

All of that and it’s still early! Imagine what you can do with the rest of the day!
