Some east coast friends have been in town this week visiting with a local friend who announced a desire for several of us to get together during their stay. As a result I’ve been putting off projects all week while awaiting a last minute phone call to arrange it. I should have taken my cue from the past and just gone about my days not expecting to hear anything. But I didn’t, and now that the call has finally come, I have a dozen other things I need to get done. Some times I wonder if I’ll ever learn that not everyone is into advanced planning.
Anyhoo… one of the projects I’ve been putting off is a batch of Snickerdoodle Cookies. I had plans to make them a while ago but after mixing up a different batch I discovered I was out of flour. A trip to the store and a determination to get things done has the house smelling of cinnamon and cookie goodness.
I remember my mother making Snickerdoodles when I was a child, and that they were one of my favorites. I’ve always loved cinnamon. I made them a couple of times when my children were small but somehow they fell off of list of go-to cookies. I’m not pointing the finger at anyone, but Recliner Man has a theory that the only cookie worth baking is a Chocolate Chip Cookie. So, it was with a little amusement that I took in The Boy’s news of discovering a new cookie at his favorite sandwich shop. Turns out that he loves Snickerdoodles.
Boy, this is your day! The cookies are baked and oh so good. Mmmm, some things are totally worth making time for.
Snickerdoodles
Sift together and set aside: 3 3/4 cups flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar.
Beat 1 cup of softened butter for 30 seconds, then add 2 cups of sugar and beat until well blended.
Add 2 eggs, 1/4 cup milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla and mix well.
Add the dry ingredients and beat until well blended.
Roll dough into 1-inch balls and then roll the balls in a mixture of 3 tablespoons sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon. Place the balls on a greased cookie sheet and bake in a 375 degree oven for about 8 minutes.
If you like your cookies a wee bit thinner and crispier, lightly press down on the unbaked cookies with a fork or glass before baking. Makes about 66 cookies.

Sometimes I like to snicker and sometimes I am a doodle– guess I should make some of your snickerdoodles! Happy Thanksgiving to you, your Recliner Man, the Boy, and the Girl. By the way, my grandson tells me American Idol starts on his birthday, January 13th. Recliner Man better get ready!

The Boy tells me they are better if you don’t flatten them before baking. I kind of like them a little crispier but he insists soft and full is the way to go. If you make them try some both ways and let me know what you think. Oooooh, time to start the AI count down! I’m excited to see how it is with the different judges. Paula seems like she is part of the show but I love Ellen. We shall see….

I wish them well on AI but I think they will be sorry they let Paula go. The new one last yr ( see, can’t even remember who she was!) thought the show was about her, and Ellen is use to the attention on her, so it’s really likely to be a struggle between those two, and I hope the camera man keeps the focus on the contestants… Maybe Simon will take over? Do you watch the “rewind” show on Sat.eves?
