Is It Turkey Time Yet?

The guys always ask, “Is there anything we can do?” They feel safe asking that because they can be pretty darn sure I will say no. In my kitchen nobody can get anything done as quickly as I can so it’s best to just stand back and let me do my thing.

It was a different story today. It was T minus 4 and counting. The potatoes, gravy, and vegetables were  all ready for their last bit of attention and the turkey still needed carved. As I grabbed the strainer and the pot of potatoes I called over my shoulder, “Does someone want to carve the turkey for me?” They both came into the kitchen and I pointed to the carving knife as I executed a perfect pirouette towards the sink and began to drain the potatoes. Another pirouette and the butter went into the pan as I grabbed the beans and again returned to the sink, giving the gravy a quick whisk as I went. Things were running smoothly with only one problem. I heard lots of small noises coming from the guy’s direction but none of them sounded like an electric knife.

Just as I finished delivering all of my items to the table I heard the knife start up. I could have gotten it done myself faster but I think it worked out well this way. It looks like they were enjoying their task, doesn’t it?

It always takes the guys twice as long as it takes the gals. I marvel at this when I ask for help, from the kitchen, to Randy or Chandler. It is like they “don’t get it” about cooking. When something needs stirring it needs stirring NOW— not in just a minute or two. Smile. Your turkey looks like it tasted just yummy!
