The Great Paint-A-Thon

July 7th, 2010 · 9 Comments

We finished painting the living/dining room and I love the new color. It’s a light tan. Light enough to make my color timid husband happy, but warm enough to please me. The nice thing is that once it was all done, Recliner Man actually thought it looked better. I may convert him to the color side yet!

This is what it use to look like. Blah, blah, blah. We took our fair share of breaks so this project pretty much took up the whole weekend.

This is a before shot of the dining room. I guess the white wasn’t all that bad, it just didn’t have much to say to me. It always felt kind of empty and unfinished.

Here is the dining room now. It was a little difficult to get the color just right with the camera. Without flash it was too dark, and with flash a little too light. This is fairly close to it though. The real color is just a wee bit more intense. (Wouldn’t you say so, Boy?)

I had a friend who actually wanted every wall in her house white. She wasn’t content with Builder’s White either, she wanted bright, bright white. I never could understand that as I feel like bright white is kind of stark and lacks comfort. I guess I’m just a color gal and she wasn’t. She probably couldn’t understand why I didn’t want the white. What are your thoughts on white walls?

Seeing these rooms finished has told me two things. First it makes it very clear that I need to paint my hallway next, and second, it has made me more convinced than ever that I want crown molding in here. Where is that Honey Do list and my pen…

Looks good…I’m getting ready to start painting our house different shades of tans & browns with white trim. That way I can use what ever fabric colors I want and it will coordinate.

I really, really hate white walls. But I seemed to be destined to live with them. For now anyway. I think I need to hang more pictures and photos. The color looks very soothing and warm.

Suzanne, that is a good point about the tans/white lending well to so many other colors.

Wendy, it feels soothing and warm to me. Who knows, I may end up liking this house after all. Too bad it isn’t so easy to separate rooms. I don’t like that the LV and DR are combined or that the Kitchen and family room are all in one. My dream home would be an old Victorian.

I think the picture turned out well. In person the tan is just a little bit richer

Looks great… isn’t it amazing what a new coat of paint will do…. ofcourse I love the color… much like the “coffee” that I had in Odell. You said “comfort” and “empty” and those are perfect words. Our white walls here have no love…and feel empty. In Odell we felt lots of love… much comfort! And isn’t it funny when you start with one room, just just don’t want to quit! ha. Have fun… Even the sun coming in will seem different …..

Richer is a perfect way to describe the effect of your paint job.

Hubby gave me a window, yep a window to brighten up our kitchen. It is now like a real room instead of a box.

Today I bought a gallon of plum and a gallon of mocha to darken up the rec room for him. Isn’t marriage fun?!

The paint for the window made me smile. It sounds like you both are taking very good care of the other :)

We used to love everything white but now we have gone over to a lovely warm colour called Buttermilk, and although it’s quite pale it makes it look as if the sun is always shining – we have it everywhere. Having said that, I adore your new colour Chia – it’s very warm and inviting.

Hi AnnR, thanks for the comment. Every morning when I walk out to that room, the color catches my attention and makes me happy. You are so right about it being warm and inviting. I love the sound of your color giving you the feeling of sunshine!
