Today is National Flag Day. On June 14, 1777 the Continental Congress made the Stars and Stripes our national flag and in August of 1949, President Truman signed off on a declaration from Congress, making June 14  National Flag Day.

Now that Halloween has come and gone it is time to start making plans for Thanksgiving. Recliner Man will be working on Turkey Day but we won’t let that stop us from enjoying the traditional feast. We will just pig out late in the evening and spend the rest of the night wondering why we are too uncomfortable to sleep.

Thanksgiving is a bigger milestone for me this year than in last year because it is also the time I need to have most of my Christmas preparations done and be ready for travel. We will be leaving just after the Thanksgiving weekend and flying up to Illinois to visit our daughter and her husband. We are planning to spend two weeks up there so we won’t have much time left for shopping and mailing once we get back. I haven’t even figured out what I’m making for my Christmas Cards yet. Rush, rush, rush…

I can’t believe how fast this month has flown by!  I’ve made it worse by being such a lazy blogger and leaving you to wait so long for updates. You are still out there waiting, right?  Hello? Is anybody there?  Oh well, I’m probably crazy enough to just sit here and talk to myself if you aren’t there.

I spent all day on Saturday “Yard Sailing”, and I do mean ALL day! I went with my friend Billie and her mother. I’ve always called Billie the Energizer Bunny because she can shop and shop all day without getting worn out. I’m going to have to call her Energizer Junior from now on because her mom was right there at the head of the pack and ready to go for more! Arlynn jumped in the van and joined us for a little while too.

I found a few really good finds. I picked up a pretty nice vacuum for $10 that I plan to clean up and give to my son and a really nice old printer’s tray that is already hanging on my wall and slowly filling up with mementos. I’ve wanted one of them for a very long time. There were tons of other goodies to be bought and we did a very good job filling the back of of the van. What on earth was I thinking – I should have taken a picture of that to share with you. Oh well, next year I will. This sale was an annual even held by a large community in Mesa.

Tomorrow Recliner Man and I are starting our day at the Intel Health Insurance Fair. I don’t know if that is what they are really calling it because I can’t read my notes, we are going to figure out what we are going to do about insurance now that they dropped the plan we were using. I really hope that we can find one that will let us keep our favorite doctors with similar coverage. All the years that Recliner Man was in the military we never got to pick a doctor and rarely saw the same one twice.  It has been quite a treat to find a doctor that I like and be able to stick with her.

After the insurance thing we are headed to the Arizona State Fair. Every year we plan to go and then something comes up to spoil our plan. We’ve been here eleven years and this will be our first time going. Recliner Man is already drooling at the thought of fresh fried dough! Come to think of it, I’m starting to drool a little too.

Oh my goodness. I can’t believe how long it has been since I last posted here. Where on earth does all my time go?

I’ve just been putting around with stuff lately. I bought some new furniture (gotta keep the economy going), got a new filling put on the tooth with the root canal work (yay! it didn’t need a new crown), started planning for the annual Christmas Cookie Exchange  and I’ve been working on a family genealogy project. I did find time to learn a new technique from my friend. Arlynne.  I think she called it Paper Fabric, or was it Fabric Paper? Well, whatever it is I’ll get a picture or two loaded for a post tomorrow. My piece is still a work in progress but I’ll show you what I have so far.
