Happy 4th of July! We will have a low key celebration here… some time in the pool and some steaks on the grill. I don’t plan on braving the heat or the crowds to go see fireworks. The forecast is for 115 today.

My friend, Jo, sent me an ATC today. Thanks Jo! There is noting better than finding an art surprise in your mailbox. I didn’t even have to wait until I got the envelope open because Jo put this cool artwork on the outside for me. I’ll bet my mailman was green with envy.

It must be the clean table that has drawn my muse back to the studio. I keep drifting back and playing. This morning I was getting ready to put some outgoing mail into an envelope when I heard my colored pencils calling out to me. I drew the seahorse on and the mermaid, bubbles, and fish are rubber stamps made from images I drew many years ago for Imagick Rubber Stamps. It was just a quick bit of art that I hope will brighten someone’s mailbox.

I came across a blog the other day where the blogger was lamenting the loss of her creativity. She even said she wondered why she even bothered to try anymore. I know how she feels.

Just about every creative person I know has found themselves in her predicament at least once. If we are all being honest we will admit that we have been there MANY times. I have a few tricks I use to try and break the dry spell. I force myself to make something, anything, with a color I don’t like (even if I =know= it will end up in the trash). I clean up my work area hoping that in the process I’ll come across some long forgotten item that will spark my creativity. And now I have a new secret weapon… dive into a couple other projects that have nothing to do with art.

I think I was trying to hard to think arty thoughts and had become my own worst enemy. I started trying to teach myself pMachine and CSS (website building stuff) and the more time I spent learning (and being frustrated) the more I found myself thinking of my waiting art projects. The big difference was that I was thinking of them with honest to goodness ideas about how I could complete them. It sounds totally ADD, doesn’t it?

Oh well, whatever works. So tell me, what works for you?

Although I did some creating this week it is all stuff that I can’t share because it is for future publications. To give you something pretty to look at I’m posting two ATC done by my friend, Jo Berneche. Jo is a very talented artist that I trade with on a monthly basis. These two cards came in today’s mail and were a wonderful surprise. I hope you enjoy them as much as I am.

Waiting in the mail for me were 2 great ATCs. The first one is from Marla Watson.

Getting mail has always been a treat for me but getting ART mail is a real thrill!

Writing this makes me stop and think about what I send out in the mail. I use to make time to decorate the envelopes when I sent something but I’ve let myself fall out of that habit. I’m 100% sure my friends would enjoy art mail as much as I do so I’m making a promise to myself that I will make time to add a little art to all the outgoing letters. How many of you take time to decorate the envelopes?

I’ve only been home a few days and haven’t been able to spend much time creating. My one project has been a Birthday Crown for my dear friend Chris. Happy Birthday Chris!
